Lyrics: One Saturday I took a walk to Zipperhead I met a girl there And she almost knocked me dead Punk rock girl please look at me Punk rock girl what do you see? Let's travel round the world Just you and me punk rock girl I tapped her on the shoulder And said do you have a beau? She looked at me and smiled And said she did not know Punk rock girl give me a chance Punk rock girl let's go slamdance We'll dress like Minnie Pearl Just you and me punk rock girl We went to the Phillie Pizza Company And ordered some hot tea The waitress said "Well no We only have it iced" So we jumped up on the table And shouted "anarchy" And someone played a Beach Boys song On the jukebox It was "California Dreamin'" So we started screamin' "On such a winter's day" She took me to her parents For a Sunday meal Her father took one look at me And he began to squeal Punk rock girl it makes no sense Punk rock girl your dad is the Vice President Rich as the Duke of Earl Yeah you're for me punk rock girl We went to a shopping mall And laughed at all the shoppers And security guards trailed us To a record shop We asked for Mojo Nixon They said "He don't work here" We said "If you don't got Mojo Nixon Then your store could use some fixin'" We got into a car Away we started rollin' I said "How much you pay for this?" She said "Nothing man, it's stolen" Punk rock girl you look so wild Punk rock girl let's have a child We'll name her Minnie Pearl Just you and me Eating fudge banana swirl Just you and me We'll travel round the world Just you and me punk rock girl |
Tablature:
Notes: No Rodney - Apparently Rodney was absent from the studio when this song was conceived/recorded. Zipperhead - A punk clothing etc. store, located at 407 South Street in Philadelphia. Minnie Pearl - An actor and country musician who died of cancer and has her own foundation. Philly Pizza Company - Just down the road from Zipperhead if you're doing the Milkmen Tour (not that I have yet), at 418 South St Philadelphia. California Dreamin' - OK, it was recorded by the Beach Boys closer to the time of this song, but I think it was originally by The Mamas & the Papas. Mojo Nixon - Often categorized as being similar to the Dead Milkmen, Mojo has had quite a few solo albums and some with Skid Roper, and probably a host of others. I don't own any myself, but have been moderately amused by Debbie Gibson is Pregnant With My Two-Head Love Child, and Elvis is Everywhere (Michael J. Fox has no Elvis in him). Hmm, maybe my record collection could use some fixin'... You can also see the file for the Chaos Rules version here. Comments: By the far the most famous Dead Milkmen song. Even made it onto high rotation on MTV. Since coming to know the other stuff, there are quite a few songs I like more, but I still dig it. Even though it's unfashionable to admit to it, due to its underservedly bad reputation. It's not right that this song gets acknowledged over all the other fine DM produce, but it ain't bad either. The stolen/rollin' rhyme is so predictable, but I love it all the same. Rodney says (re: least favourite DM song): Hmmm...I'm sooo tempted to say "Punk Rock Girl". Bitchin' Camaro was a real pain to play night-after-night, but at least I could ad lib during the intro. Punk Rock Girl is a cute song, and I'll take bad over cute any day. Plus, I think that having a "hit" lead - in the long run - to our demise. OK. I'm going with Punk Rock Girl. Oh, and most of that last CD was crap. |
